A place created by storytellers, for storytellers, Story Studios Australia, previously Melbourne Young Writers’ Studio, was founded in 2019 by screenwriter, producer and educator Dan Nixon and has since become one of Australia’s leading creative writing schools for young and emerging writers. The Story Studios Australia history includes its origins in Fitzroy North and its development from Melbourne Young Writers’ Studio into a provider of a broad and ever expanding array of programs, events and opportunities for children, tweens, teens and for adults.

A key moment in the Story Studios Australia history was the late 2022 relocation to a beautiful new studio in Carlton, within Melbourne’s arts and education precinct. We currently have hundreds of young people attending our programs in person every single week, with many more online across Australia. Whilst we work with thousands more each year through holiday programs, school programs and events. As of 2023 our adult programs are also growing in popularity at a rapid rate. 

Story Studios Australia/Melbourne Young Writers’ Studio is led by Dan Nixon together with his wife Hannah Nixon (a speech pathologist with a passion for children’s literature) and co-owner, author and screenwriter, Bonnie McRae.
