Story Studios At Home brings together young writers from across Australia and beyond in live online creative writing groups. Led by practising writers, these small, lively groups are full of curious minds, creative challenges, shared discoveries and plenty of unexpected ideas.
With interactive digital spaces, personalised writing feedback and a welcoming community of fellow storytellers, young writers have room to explore how stories work, develop their craft and make their stories their own.

A creative space to call your own
A favourite chair, a cosy corner, perhaps a furry writing companion nearby. Young writers can settle into a familiar space and let their imaginations wander, with their weekly writers’ group just a click away.
A pinboard full of possibilities
Using Padlet and other digital tools, our young writers can share ideas, gather inspiration, explore visual prompts and bounce creative possibilities around with their group. It’s a lively, ever-changing space where one idea can spark a dozen more.
Your story, with a mentor beside you
Our Story Mentors are practising writers who bring their own experience and love of the craft to every group. Each young writer has a dedicated Google Doc, where mentors can follow ideas as they take shape, offering personalised feedback, questions and encouragement in real time.
A little group with big ideas
With a maximum of ten young writers per group, there’s room for every voice. Meeting with the same mentor and fellow writers each week, young writers share discoveries, swap ideas and celebrate each other’s stories, building a genuine sense of community along the way.

An hour each week devoted to exploring stories in all their forms, from books and films to comics, games and everything in between. Whether you’re already filling notebooks with ideas or just beginning to discover a love of storytelling, there’s room to practise, experiment and find your own way into writing.
Stories worth sharing
The stories that begin at home can go a long way! Our young writers have opportunities to see their work published in Story Studios’ anthologies, newspapers and digital publications, sharing their imaginations with readers far beyond their writing desks.
Weekly Creative Writing Groups
Our young writers meet for an hour each week in small, age-matched groups, led by practising writers. Together they dive into storytelling fundamentals, pull stories apart, follow strange ideas, discover what makes a story work and develop original creative writing of their own.
There’s plenty of writing, but also conversation, examples, experimentation, feedback and time spent with other young people who are just as interested in stories as they are. We talk novels, movies, TV, comics, games and more, letting young writers’ interests inspire them and giving them the tools they need to bring those ideas to life on the page.
Groups run live online Monday–Saturday.
Weekly Private Mentorships
For young writers who would benefit from extra support, or older writers developing a larger fiction project, we offer a limited number of 1:1 and 1:2 mentorships tailored to their needs and interests.
Sessions are available after school and on Saturdays, with daytime options. Places and trials depend on a suitable time-slot and mentor.

How long are the sessions?
Each group meets for one hour a week. Times depend on your young writer’s age and availability.
What do we need to join online?
You’ll receive a Zoom link, a Google Doc for writing and a Padlet link for sharing ideas.
Can parents attend?
Sessions are for young writers and Story Mentors only, in line with our child safety policies. This helps create a comfortable space where young writers can connect and share their ideas.
If your child may need support settling in, please contact us before their first session so we can discuss how best to help.
What will your young writer gain?
Every young writer develops at their own pace, with their own interests, instincts and ways of working. Our weekly creative writing groups give them the guidance, practice and creative community to grow their writing skills over time, while discovering new ways to think, tell stories and appreciate the work of others.
In a world where it’s easier than ever to have ideas generated for us, we believe there’s enormous value in learning to develop your own.

Our sessions run during Victorian government school terms, with dates listed above. No classes are held on Victorian public holidays, and fees already account for these breaks.
