David Hartley Writing Seminars – November 2025

Virtual Writer-in-Residence
Story Studios Australia, in collaboration with Melbourne City of Literature, is delighted to welcome Manchester-based writer, teacher, and PhD in Creative Writing, David Hartley, as our Virtual Writer-in-Residence this November.
Across three online seminars – held on Wednesdays, November 12, 19, and 26 from 7–9pm – David will guide participants through the imaginative art of worldbuilding and live story creation.
In the first two sessions, titled “Worldbuilder”, David will lead writers through the process of designing rich, self-contained realms – from the geology and economy to the beasts, battles, and brotherhoods of their inhabitants – exploring how worldbuilding can inspire fresh story ideas and strengthen narrative foundations.
In the final “Storycraft Live Stream” session, David will write a brand-new short story from scratch, drawing inspiration from prompts provided by participants and the curiosities on his own bookshelves. This unique session offers a rare opportunity to witness a writer’s creative process in real time and gain confidence in your own.
Registration is free, and signing up for one session gives you access to all three throughout November. When registered, you will be sent video conference link to join ahead of the seminars.
You can also follow David’s blog.
