School Holiday Writing Adventures
At Story Studios Australia, we offer creative school holiday programs that place story at the heart of everything we do. Through playful, practical workshops, young writers explore the building blocks of great storytelling—like character, setting, structure and world-building—while crafting original stories of their own.
Whether they’re solving mysteries, writing fantasy epics, or inventing brand-new myths, kids are immersed in imaginative worlds where their ideas take centre stage.
Our programs run in person at our beautiful Carlton studio, sometimes at 75 Reid St in Fitzroy North, or online from anywhere! We’ve also collaborated with brilliant partners like Ukiyo (Melbourne’s top escape room) and Writers Victoria at The Wheeler Centre to create memorable and meaningful storytelling days.
Perfect for kids who love to imagine, create and tell stories—whether they’re seasoned scribblers or just getting started. Come and join us for a day (or more!) of storytelling fun.
What’s Included in Each Program?

What Does a Day in the Program Look Like?
✨ Creative Kick-off:
Start the day with hands-on world-building and character creation – from sculpting clay figures to crafting fantasy maps and story elements.
🤝 Mentor-Led Collaboration:
Story mentors guide and support young writers, creating a collaborative space full of idea-sharing and lively discussion.
🎬 Midday Movie & Lunch Break:
We take a pause with a G or PG-rated film that ties into the day’s theme, followed by a relaxing lunch break to relax, refuel, and connect with fellow storytellers.
✍️ Afternoon Story Dive:
Delve deeper into plot development, character arcs, and writing techniques – all tailored to spark imagination.
🎲 Interactive Boost:
Keep the creativity flowing with group games and energisers, adapted to suit the group’s vibe and needs.
📖 Showcase & Share:
End the day by sharing a story highlight or excerpt with peers—just in time for parents to hear a snippet of the magic.
