A night for local writers, readers, and storytellers to connect.

Once every season, Story Studios Australia opens its doors for a warm and welcoming night of creative community.

The Writers Social is a casual two and a half hour gathering for writers of all genres, formats and stages to come together, share what they’re working on, and chat about the joys and challenges of the writing life.

Celebrate your milestones, swap craft tips, get advice, talk agents, publishers and funding opportunities, or simply enjoy sharing the books and shows you’ve been getting inspired ed by lately.

Whether you’re a regular at the studio or it’s your first time through the door, The Writers’ Social is your space to feel inspired, connected and supported on your writing journey. Community, camaraderie and creativity is what we’re all about at Story Studios Australia.

Seeing as this is our ‘Spring’ meeting, we’ve prepared some prompts that are all about new beginnings and the birth of inspiration! Feel free to use these are potential conversation starters on the night!

1. How do you come up with your ideas? How are they born?
2. How do you start writing your stories? What processes have you found fruitful?
3. What book, show or film began your love of stories and writing?

Meet Your Instructor

Adult Programs Coordinator, Matt is a screenwriting teacher at VCA and co-host of the movie podcast Tripod. Raised on Rupert Bear, A.A. Milne, Morris Gleitzman, and Enid Blyton, he writes light fantasy and escapist stories for kids and teens, bringing a warm, playful energy to his stories.
